Enigmatic Rant

Lake McBride ice

January 30, 2010 - 9:52 PM

I got brave today and walked out onto the ice on Lake McBride today while the sun was setting. It is kind of un-nerving to stand on the ice when it is clear as glass in some places. I looked around and saw ice fishing shanties so I figured it was safe. The ice was about ten inches thick!

Great night to be outside, the sky was amazing.

Cheers!

Isaacs b-ball game!

January 30, 2010 - 2:10 PM

Isaac had another basketball game today. It was fun to see him play something that he likes so much. He made a basket that would've been a three pointer in the "big" leagues. Very fun to watch! Enjoy the pics.

Great job, Isaac!

Cheers!

Where McBride meets the Res.

January 28, 2010 - 5:14 PM

I finally got out for a nice long walk today. I took off from the raptor center and made it to the spillway where Lake McBride meets the Coralville Reservoir. It was so good to get out into the crisp air and walk through the woods again. The sunlight was nice and warm, and made for some fun shots. Enjoy.

This was a cool looking root on the rocky shore.

Minnesota Summer '08

January 23, 2010 - 6:50 PM

I dug up some more pics from our trip to Minnesota in '08. The food that week was especially interesting. Isaac wanted to try eating crawdads for a long time and we caught about 30 of them and cooked them up. I was surprised at how good they were.

Isaac is so cool!

I think you know where the other halves went!

Owen fishing off the dock at sunset.

Isaac having fun from morning till night.

What a great place to relax.

Cheers!

Our anniversary

January 21, 2010 - 3:53 PM

We've been married for 16 years tomorrow, so I thought I'd post a nice pic I took of a rose for Kari. Love you, babe!

Cheers!

Frozen world

January 19, 2010 - 5:03 PM

The fog has left amazing ice on the trees this week. I was able to get out after work and get some shots. Enjoy!

Prehistoric

January 18, 2010 - 10:00 PM

I walked around on the ice today by the Mehaffey bridge and came upon all these stumps that were shooting up out of the ice. There were several, 20 or so, and they looked like pre-historic bones to me. Thought you might like to see them, too!

Other-worldly!

Snow pile fun

January 16, 2010 - 5:39 PM

We took the boys over to the middle school parking lot today and played on the snow mounds. They were over ten feet tall and made for some good slide action! Enjoy.

Have a nice weekend! Cheers!

Goofing around with a tree

January 15, 2010 - 3:41 PM

Some random shots of a old oak tree near here. We finally got some interesting light for shooting.

My favorite...

reminds me of an African landscape

Had fun just getting out. Getting some new filters and gear soon, so hopefully I'll be able to post something a little more interesting/exciting.

Cheers!

Geode State Park

January 13, 2010 - 9:34 PM

In May of 2007 I had the privilege of being the only photographer to shoot the burning of the old beach house at Geode State Park north of Burlington, Iowa. It was cool to be there, but very sad because I have such good memories of it. They decided to burn it down to make way for a smaller, more useful one and a sand play gym area. The local newspaper, The Hawk Eye, bought one of the images and ran it the next day. The New London fire department made sure it was done correctly.

Holes in the roof to let air/smoke out. Watch the progression of fire coming out and over the building. It only took about ten minutes and the whole building was going.

This was the next day. Since then they have cleared it and turned it into something cool. It was a little sad, but I'm glad that the kids will have a new place to play and have fun.

Just some random shots for nostalgia.

I grew up about 15 minutes from here, so I was there a lot with my family, and friends. A lot of my friends, family and I have biked it several times together and have had so much fun swimming at the beach. If you ever get the chance and have a weekend to spend somewhere, go to Geode. It really is a wonderful place. Scenic views, a great 7.8 mile hiking/mountain biking trail around the lake, and very nice camping. About and hour south of Iowa City.

Worth the trip.

Owen's swimming lesson!

January 11, 2010 - 9:04 PM

Tonight was Owens first swim lesson! He was scared to go at first, but then got really excited. He had a great time and can't wait to go back.

Arches National Park

January 9, 2010 - 10:15 PM

I decided to dig up some pics from the trip to Arches that I took with Amos and Brent. This was such an amazing place. We did this route on Owl rock that was perfect! I think it was about 120 feet total.

Amos was the shooter on these pics. The one with the red shirt and white helmet is me, and Brent led it to the place where you see him (black shirt, orange helmet).

Enjoy.

Old Minnesota picture

January 6, 2010 - 11:16 PM

So lately there hasn't been much to take pics of, outside speaking, so I dug up one from Minnesota from a few years back. We, as an extended family, take trips there in the summer to relax and hang out for a week. Great times!

Thanks, hopefully we'll be getting some nice weather soon!

Black and white experiment

January 1, 2010 - 11:32 PM

I decided to work on an image from our trip to the Utah desert. Just fo' fun! Hope you like it. I'm still trying to "hone" my skills in black and white.

Cheers!
